Video Campus in Review

Tally Wilgis stopped by our video venue campus and had some great things to say about FF. Tally is the teaching pastor at Focal Point Church in Chesapeake, VA. Much props to our team out there in Chesapeake who keep the campus on point every week.

Forefront 2.0?

So we decided to do a series based off of the whole Web 2.0 deal. People trying to find comminuty and connections in all the wrong places… instead of trying to find it in Christ and with people who share & do life together.

So the series is here and starts this week. A micro-site was created to go along with it.

Check it out here.

In the words of the Beatles…

HELP! In October we went from one campus to three campuses. Our current line up is two sunday campuses in high schools and tuesday nights in a local pub. We began filming the pub message and our new sunday campus was video venue. We now have live preaching, film in the studio (my office) pictured above on Wednesdays and then show that video to one sunday campus and the other is the same live preacher again from tuesday night.

It’s become pretty messy. We stopped filming at the pub because of lighting issues, but we are trying to figure out a plan to relieve the teaching pastor of the week from having to preach 112 times every day of the week. We’ve tossed around going back to filming at the pub if we could get the video right…

Ideas welcome (hint, hint)

Lousy T-Shirt Downloads

The holidays have been a whirlwind of travel, fun, and rest… but now it’s time to get back into the swing of things and what better way than to post some things you can download… some material for your viewing pleasure. We’re doing a series based on Vince’s book, “I Became A Christian And All I Got Was This Lousy T-shirt,” (book site here). Baker Books put together a layout with all the weekly messages, small group sessions, song ideas, lead-ins, etc. But they don’t have the strip intro videos, so here they are plus all the other content. Visit the book site for series info. Enjoy.

Square Peg, Round Hole.

Ever feel like this? You’re trying to create a culture for people to come and experience God and somehow they don’t fit. I mean you tried everything right? You did the studies, read the books, attended the conference so you are now the master of all that is reaching people, but somehow they don’t fit.

Our natural gut reaction is to begin to ask ourselves what is it that makes them not want to stay and get engaged? Once we make that list we begin to try and change people’s minds, cut programs and ideas down, shift & try to maneuver around everything to make them stay…

But maybe the issue is simply we need to make a different kind of hole. As leaders we look at our target audience (I pray for that for you the answer is unchurched people), and we ask ourselves this simple question “What shape are these people and what hole have we provided?”

You may find you have to change everything to do this, i.e. rename the church, create a new identity, fire staff, hire staff, change venues, sell your building, and the list goes on. But, one thing remains the same: You still have square pegs looking for a place to fit.

What kind of hole has your church made?

New Series

We started a new series this week and instead of just launching it; we now communicate through email about the series via video, etc. Check out the web/vid deal for our new series “Christianity for Cavemen” Click Here

Random Thoughts…

So I was at our Tuesday night service and it was definitely an interesting experience. As I listened to our lead pastor tell a bar full of a mixed crowd of believers and unbelievers that they can make a difference and change someone’s story and serve… I hear conversations to either side of me (but good conversations).

To my right, a woman who is on the campus team is talking with a young man right outside the bar and I hear the discussion going to God and faith and how he was never really accepted and is late getting back home, but would love a Bible. She hands him a Bible and his face glows brighter than fireworks on the 4th of July.

To my left I watch as the campus pastor talks with a guy who looks like life definitely hasn’t given him a fair go. They talk for 3/4 of the message time, but it was awesome to see his face after he talked with Joe.

Just good stuff. It’s a great feeling when God blesses something in the church you’re a part of (I still can’t believe he let’s me be a part of it all, so cool).
