Sick days are the worst.
Having a kid makes it tough.
Tonight Chloe was uber excited to hang out with daddy. I was busy trying to catch up on work I missed and just wanted her to play without me. Then… the tears and screaming began. She wouldn’t stop. I tried it all, but nothing would shut her down.
Finally, I closed the laptop. Climbed down off the chair, and just began to lay quietly on the floor. She stopped. Seriously. She stopped just like that. Then with a super intense grin, she ran at me and jumped on me full force. Laughing as she got up to run around the room and play, it hit me…
I had to get down into her world.
It was there that I was less of an outsider and more of a friend. She trusted me when I was in her realm. It didn’t mean I was dumbing myself down or talking elementary, she just wanted to know I was in her world.
Jesus modeled this same principle. As he came from heaven and walked on this earth, He joined our little world (now I know this is God’s world, but hear me out). Jesus took time to live among us, learn about us, laugh, joke, cry, and experience life with us. It was his earthly presence that modeled how we are to live with God. He entered the place we live daily and it brings me comfort to know he was able to withstand temptation. Not only do I find a Lord and Savior in Jesus, but I also find a friend and someone to model my life like.
The next time you think you’re “too cool” or “better than someone” and unwilling to enter their world, remember… we’re not any better than anyone else and- the Son of God lived life with people. People who honestly were not worthy of his presence or time, but he didn’t consider himself above or better than others (just one of the endless reasons I love Jesus and the life he led here on earth). When we share life with people, we’ll be amazed at how the relational roots grow and spread.
So get ready to get down.
