Jason,

I have read all the post on the online church and in complete harmony with you. I loved your thoughts on doing the online thing to show a friend who may be “seeking” what a service looks like as well as for people who might be in the hospital or out sick. As a minister with a church who has an older age base we also have many who may be home-bound. Some of them even have technology abilities. I also agree that it should not take away from the community feel that God created his church to have.

The question I have…is there anyway that we could broadcast live, but to view you have to have a password? This could be something that changes periodically. This could be something a member could get to give to a seeking friend. This could also be something we emailed out to our members who are stuck in the hospital or at home. Just a thought I had yesterday. Did not know if the provider you used (or any equivalent provider) had that technology built in.

In April, we will have the capability to tape our services and have a video podcast after the fact- each week for your viewing pleasure. It's going to bridge the gap. Giving people a chance to see what they missed or pass it on to share with a friend. But what we don't want is to give people a reason to abandon the community of the local church. I agree- it can never replace being with the church family every week. Good thoughts Becky.

for someone who doesn't have an ipod or have a clue how to record and listen to service if the service was online AFTER church then I could watch it the months that I'm volunteering. I feel like I miss a lot during that time. I wouldn't want it to be broadcast live but I'd like to be able to watch it after. Especially to show other people who I may be talking to about the message that day. We jump to youtube videos all the time to make a point, I'd love to do the same to show my friends what I heard in church on Sunday. It would never replace attending and being with my family every week.
