Motion vs. Stillness

When do we stop?
LA. NYC. ATL. And the list goes on.
They are cities that set the pace. They are moving constantly.
The rest of the population has followed in tow.
We have created a culture of non-stop craziness.
We’re always on the move.
We talked about it yesterday as a church.
We go and go and go without thought to the toll it is taking on us.
God didn’t create us to take that kind of schedule.
Even God rested after six days of work- Genesis 2:1-3.
God commands us to rest- Exodus 20:8, Deut 5:12, Lev 23:3.
Jesus tells us as we have burdens and are weary to bring it to Him to find rest- Matt 11:28-29.
We pride ourselves on not being liars, killers, swindlers or cheats. We get excited because we tried to honor our parents.
But we wear our busy schedules and being on the go as a “badge of honor.”
Look at me I serve at church, work all the time, drive the kids to all kinds of events & practices, and don’t have any time left to spare.

Stop it.
(And I’m talking to myself when I say this).
We need to stop it. God commands it.

We issued a challenge yesterday as a church.
Take a day of rest.
Work six days. Rest one.
Cancel your plans. Skip practice. Reschedule the meeting. Take a personal day. Do whatever you need to do, but take a day.
Once you took the day, email your story to jason@forefront.org.

We’ll share some of them here on the blog. But what would it look like for you to take a day of rest? How would it affect the rest of the things, people, and loved ones around you? How would it help you and God in your relationship?
